Dr. Paisan Ruamviboonsuk is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine, Rangsit University, Bangkok, Thailand. He serves in many positions of international societies in ophthalmology: a Vice-President of Asia-Pacific Teleophthalmology Society, the Scientific Secretary of Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retina Society, and a Council Member of Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology and Asia-Pacific Ocular Imaging Society.
Dr. Paisan was the President of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand in 2013-2016, and the President of the Thai Retina Society in 2011-2014.
He received several distinguished national and international awards, such as the National Distinguished Public Health Officer Award from H.M. King Maha Vajiralongkorn, Rama X of Thailand, Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Arthur Lim Award Lecturer, American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award, and United Nations Public Service Award for the initiative on prevention of blindness from diabetes using retinal images. This initiative had become the national diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening program and had later been successfully validated for using artificial intelligence (AI).
In 2022, Dr. Paisan received World Health Organization’s Sasakawa Health Prize for having accomplished outstanding innovative advancement in prevention of blindness from diabetic retinopathy in primary health care in Thailand.
